Demi Lovato Talk About Her Twitter Account (Video): When Demi Lovato told her followers she wanted to leave Twitter for good, many Twitter users thought she was bluffing and accused her of acting like a dramaqueen. However, she made good on her threat and unceremoniously stopped posting with a final tweet: "Twitterbreak. Peace." And although she retweeted a message this week, her account has been otherwise silent. Demi joins a long list of other celebrities who decided to become Twitter quitters, but there's no telling whether her retirement will last. Celebrities like LeAnn Rimes have dramatically announced their plans to leave Twitter, only to return a week later.
So why did Demi call it quits? She told her 2.4 million followers, "About to say goodbye to twitter... I love my fans so much but the access that the other people have is uncomfortable to me." Other celebrities have voiced similar complaints before pressing the "Delete" button. So far this month, Amanda Bynes and John Mayer both decided to take a break from their Twitter accounts. Amanda Bynes used the site to announce her retirement from acting, then changed her mind a month later. That's made her followers hopeful she will one day return to Twitter, and also prompted the trend #classicbynes.
As for John Mayer, he has left his 3.7 million followers feeling abandoned and confused. Without his constant updates, how will they fill that empty void in their life? Now they have to wait for him to update his blog to know what he's up to! Mayer called his Twitter break a "metaphoric retirement," and his representative said he left because his tour is "now at a close and a return to the studio planned." He'll most likely return the next time he needs to clarify an embarrassing quote.
Of all the celebrities to call it quits, none has ever left Twitter with as much style or finality as Miley Cyrus. It didn't take her long to amass more than 2 million followers, but she soon decided Twitter just wasn't worth her time. "I stopped living for moments and started living for people" Miley told fans in a rap video explaining why she stopped using the micro-blogging site. If only Demi or John Mayer had posted a rap video like Miley (posted below) explaining their motivation, now that would have been worth twittering about!
So who will be the next celeb to become a Twitter quitter? We predict Paris Hilton might give up on Twitter, although she might be too narcissistic to quit. David Henrie recently unfollowed Selena Gomez after constant fan rumors. Maybe he's rethinking his Twitter account too. And there's always Chris Brown and SouljaBoy. They might get so sick of their online drama that they take down their Tweets altogether.
