Newly appointed US 'X Factor' judge Demi Lovato will be a good role model to the pop hopefuls. The 'Skyscraper' singer was confirmed to be joining the panel of the TV talent show along with Britney Spears on Monday (14.05.12) taking their places alongside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid.

Demi, 19, has openly battled and overcome depression, drug-use and bulimia and experts believe she "could potentially" be a positive influence on the young contestants. Clinical psychologist Vivian Diller, Ph.D., told Celebuzz: "Demi has been outspoken and inspiring to others about how you pick yourself up after you've been down.

"She may be very good, because she cares a lot. Let's hope that she uses that to be a fair and empathic judge. She could potentially be a good role model for others."The 'Camp Rock' actress filmed an MTV confessional in 2012, entitled 'Stay Strong', which showcased her difficult path to recovery.

Demi - who was admitted to rehab in November 2010 after her parents staged an intervention - admitted to having suicidal thoughts in the documentary, saying: "There's days where you're going to struggle I cannot tell you that I have not thrown up since treatment. I cannot tell you I've not cut myself since treatment. I'm not perfect. This is a daily battle that I will face for the rest of my life."

Demi has the full support from Simon in her new role and he chose her for the position because he believes younger viewers will be able to relate to her.

The music mogul said: "Demi's had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She's young, confident, and enthusiastic. I think it's really important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes we are making to the show."

Demi Lovato's major new gig calls for a statement-making hair change! Which is why the singer, who was announced by FOX on Monday that she would be joining the judges panel alongside The X Factor newbie Britney Spears, spent Friday at Nine Zero One Salon to switch up her strands.

"It's the lightest she has ever been, and she doesn't feel like anyone else could've done it better than her Nine Zero One girls," a source tells Us Weekly about the "Skyscraper" singer's new creamy, blonde hair extensions. "She wanted to be light for her upcoming tour as well."

In February, Lovato, 19, hit up the salon, which is frequented by stars Hilary Duff and Julianne Hough, to bring her from a redhead to a honey blonde. Over the past year, Lovato went from having sun-kissed highlights last summer, followed by a dark auburn shade in the fall and a fiery red, which she debuted in early December.

Lovato, whose summer tour with Hot Chelle Rae kicks off in California June 12, is understandably over the moon about her new primetime TV gig where she and Spears replace former X Factor judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

"I am totally stoked to be here," the former Disney actress said at FOX's Upfront Presentation. "I'm excited to represent my generation."

It's official. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are your new X Factor judges. While we hoped Simon Cowell would employ Tupac's hologram (he would cost less, and probably form more coherent sentences), the show's creator apparently wanted real, living talent for the job.

The news, confirmed by TMZ, comes nearly five months after the opinionated Brit cleaned house on his talent show, firing judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and host Steve Jones. Will Lovato and Spears help X Factor dethrone American Idol as the most-watched reality series on TV? We doubt it. But that doesn't mean we can't ask:

Demi Lovato has signed on as an X Factor judge in the US, according to TMZ! Although the news has not been confirmed by Demi or The X Factor executives, TMZ is reporting that Demi will be in NYC tomorrow for the FOX Up Fronts, along with fellow new judge Britney Spears.

Demi was heavily tipped to be joining the show, after Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were dumped after one season. Demi will join Britney, Simon Cowell and LA Reid on the judging panel of the hit reality show. Are you looking forward to seeing Demi on The X Factor? Demi Lovato is the front-runner for the 4th seat on the "X Factor" judge's panel, but she hasn't gotten an offer yet according to close sources. Producers are close to sealing a deal with Britney Spears to fill one of the 2 vacant chairs, but that deal is still in negotiations ( it is not closed!) Both sides reportedly expect to reach an agreement and if they do Britney will end up with $15 mil for the season! Not too bad, eh?

Probably producers hesitate about Demi Lovato. Besides, they have every right to be wary. It is obvious that they take into consideration her fiery personality. Just  to mention that Lovato once socked a female back-up dancer in the face during the Jonas Brothers tour.

And, the saga continues. Last week we heard that the spot on the judging panel on The X Factor could be going to Miley Cyrus. Well, today there is a report saying that the current front runner is actually Demi Lovato, who is in discussions with the peeps from The X Factor. We are STILL waiting to find out if our dear Britney Spears will become a judge on the upcoming season, and the names continue to be thrown around. When will this end? We need to know just so this drama and weekly new-name-game ceases..

TMZ is reporting that Demi Lovato is the current leader of the pack vying for the 4th seat on the judge’s panel, but she hasn’t gotten an offer yet. We know that Simon Cowell REALLY wants Britney, and clearly, she would be the best person, not just for us, but for gaining publicity and higher ratings for the new season. Still, there are all the other names in the ring… Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, LeAnn Rimes and Fergie. So far, still no word, and now there is a SIXTH person’s name in the hat, with Demi.

The last front runner we heard was Miley, it seems every week there is a new person leading the pack. Ugh, I just want them to sign someone so that we can move on. Obviously, we all hope that it is Britney, but should probably prepare ourselves for a Miley or Demi judge… whaddaya think?

Watch Demi Lovato get Punk'd in these video clips from Thursday's episode. Demi was on the receiving end of a haunted studio prank, courtesy of Nick Cannon and a pretty freaky looking ghost. She was given some backstory about the haunted studio after everyone heard a noise, then they all see a ghostly figure at the piano.

Demi, clearly freaked out, says, "I'm, like, about to cry."After everyone in the room sees the ghost... the ghostly woman comes to Demi, along with Nick to tell her she's been punk'd! Nick asked if she thought it was real and she was pretty shaken after the prank, but said "That was so scary," adding, "I'm gonna get you back so bad."She even seemed a little taken aback by the whole set up, asking "so did somebody really die here?"

Nick supported the prank though, saying "they do say this studio is haunted though."Overall, she says, "I can't believe you guys just did that to me."Nick shows her behind-the-scenes of how they made the ghost and she still seemed a bit shaken by the experience.

Demi Lovato has reportedly signed on to judge "The X Factor" Season 2. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news about Lovato's discussions to join Simon Cowell's Fox singing competition series and now, E! reports sources have confirmed Lovato's all set to sit beside Cowell and L.A. Reid on the judges panel, which has two vacant seats.

According to "E! News," Lovato has agreed to a deal, but just needs to put the pen to the paper. Watch the video below for the full report. "The X Factor" began searching for two new judges -- and two hosts -- after Season 1 whenjudges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger along with host Steve Jones were given the boot. Cowell began searching for replacement judges and hosts almost immediately.

Rumored judges include big names from Britney Spears to LeAnn Rimes, while former WWE personality Stacy Keibler's name has been thrown around as host. "Glee's" Darren Criss was reportedly offered the hosting gig but turned it down. Many of the rumored judges -- like Fergie -- told press they're flattered, but don't have the time to give it their all. Lovato will reportedly join Britney Spears as a new judge when "The X Factor" returns to Fox. Request for comment from Fox was not immediately returned.

Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears all have "the x factor," a little something-something they share - along with some mutual connections to the Mouse House and an appetite for scandal.

They're also three of the celebrities supposedly being courted for The X Factor's rejigged judges' panel. So says The Hollywood Reporter, anyway, and since Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul left the reality series at the close of last season, the show is desperate for some new talking heads. Season 2 auditions, after all, launch this month.

Lovato, 19, is in final negotiations for a judging job, according to The Hollywood Reporter - never mind a schedule that includes a just-announced North American tour. (The performer, who famously entered rehab in late 2010 after melting down during her world tour with the Jonas Brothers, released her current album, Unbroken, in September 2011.)

Still, Lovato's not the only candidate, and, as THR notes, "The deal is not yet done and could fall apart." If, as THR suggests, The X Factor is looking to cast a judge who will appeal to The Youngs, Miley Cyrus could also be a contender. E! News reports that producers are interested in the former Hannah Montana star, who has most recently been pushing her film career (new flick LOL arrives this weekend). That said, E! reports that Cyrus has yet to receive a formal offer from the show, and the outlet suggests she's just one of several names being buzzed about - then leaked? - by the program's insiders. Avril Lavigne, who was a guest performer during Season 1, is also being "discussed" as a potential judge, for example, and other names, including Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey, have been knocking around for months.

Spears' spot on the show seems more certain, although even she's not a complete lock. If she signs on to the program, the pop star will take on a $15-million deal (that much was reported by E! News in mid-April). But Spears has yet to accept the gig, it seems. (According to the L.A. Times, the length of her contract seems to be a point of conflict; The X Factor wants Spears committed to two years, whereas her reps would prefer one.) Still, with a $15-million contract, Spears' payday would smoke her predecessors'. According to TMZ, Nicole Scherzinger made $1.5 million for her year on The X Factor and Paula Abdul got $2.5 million.

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, the CEO of The X Factor's production company, FremantleMedia, told THR that finalizing the judges' panel will take time. "These things always drag out to the very last minute," she said, but that "last minute" could come two weeks from now. According to the Hollywood Reporter, an official casting announcement is expected by May 14, at a Fox presentation to advertisers. The X Factor starts auditions - for contestants, not judges - at the end of the month.
